LOEX
Connecting You to Excellence in
Library Instruction and Information Literacy
LOEX is a self-supporting, non-profit educational clearinghouse for library instruction and information literacy information. Founded in 1971 after the "First Annual Conference on Library Orientation" at Eastern Michigan University, LOEX (which used to stand for Library Orientation Exchange; now it is just LOEX) has grown from a lending repository of library instruction materials and host of an annual conference to an internationally-known, 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that serves as a conduit for those working in the field.
LOEX still hosts an annual conference with published proceedings, but also hosts an additional, smaller biennial focused conference in the fall, produces a quarterly publication featuring articles by teaching librarians along with a monthly current awareness e-letter, and also conducts a growing list of events and initiatives to help connect librarians.
In 2026, LOEX has over 575 member libraries mostly in the United States, but also in Canada, Europe and Hong Kong.
Brad Sietz is the current LOEX Director.
Mission:
LOEX is dedicated to the support and promotion of academic libraries, the development and continuing education of library personnel, and the promotion of information literacy through education and the exchange of ideas for the benefit of its members as well as the public.
